TJ Boyce II is a serial entrepreneur who lives in Houston, a recording artist, producer, writer, filmmaker, and his children’s official “dad-ager” (manager of his children’s entertainment career). As a creative, he soaks up what’s going on in the world and executes socially conscious thought through his films and music.

Social Impact — What meaning do you personally associate with this term?

To me it means, “What can you do to impact change and bring forth awareness to your cause locally, nationally, or globally”. All of these components make a major impact and address pressing social challenges to your community.

Social Responsibility — What is your best practice to integrate it into your daily life?

I am creative by nature; therefore I create music and films that bring forth awareness to major issues everyday people are faced with. It is in this space where I can use my voice. My music and films are teaching tools that promote awareness and challenge us to be more responsible and socially conscious.

Purchasing Power — What is it all about, and why is it real power?

Purchasing power is a broad brush where it could be identified for a race, company, or entrepreneur. Purchasing power is the resources someone has to make purchases or liquidate assets. The power is in the dollar. The more purchasing power you have, the more power you have to evoke change. There is strength in numbers. We have to learn that if we want to get a seat at the table we will have to get more purchasing power. We can do this by pooling our resources together. It is not about black or white, it is about executing a dream.

Conscious Living — Why is it important to live our life consciously? And how do our actions influence and affect each other, and therefore connect us?

Living consciously is about taking control of your life. Taking time out to make critical decisions. You have to make the life you want instead of living vicariously. For me, I believe that prayer changes things. I pray before I make any major decision.

Conscious Consumerism — Why, now more than ever, it is important to reflect on our buying habits, and research the brands we are consuming?

It is important more than ever now to invest and shop in ways that you can make a positive social or environmental impact in the community. I think that it makes the consumer a wiser shopper. (Ex: Buy Black Initiative, do the research to find those goods and services created by African American entrepreneurs)

Commercial — From your point of view, what are the commercial practices that are unhealthy to humanity?

Any form of misrepresentation to the consumer which could be: deceptive pricing, false advertisement, and too good to be true schemes.

The Future — What is your personal outlook on the future?

My personal outlook seems very interesting. At this time, we are at a crossroad with major technological advances and a very vocal political social climate heightened by a global pandemic. It is a very interesting time to be alive where people are more conscious than ever, and more socially unconscious than ever before.

Change — What do you personally think needs to change — from a consumer perspective and within the corporate world?

Making conscious investments in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives. Not just talking the talk, but walking the walk. We need to have metrics in place to verify the corporate world’s impact.

THANK YOU!

Demee Koch about the MEDIUM interview series on Social Impact:

Hello! I am a serial entrepreneur practising conscious entrepreneurship. This is an interview series about social responsibility and the best practices in incorporating it into our daily lives.

Every day, we make an impact consciously and subconsciously. It is implemented through our actions.

A great example of this is the practice of our Purchasing Power where we can actually direct our impact by consciously deciding which brands and companies we nourish.

I interview change advocates about best practices for incorporating social consciousness into our daily lives, and practices in the business world that need to change for the benefit of social responsibility.

With this interview, we invite the reader to reflect their every day actions. We all have an impact, and if we are consciously aware of that, we can be empowered to start the change for a better future.

Thank you for being the change. I’m looking forward to learn from each one of you. Reach out to me via LinkedIn.
