Conscious Beauty And Beautiful Minds: Interview w/ Alexia Amvrazi

Alexia Amvrazi is a wellness-centred writer who since her late teens developed a passion for studing complimentary self-care / self-help remedies, principles and techniques.

Throughout her life she has studied various complimentary therapies, experienced a grand variety of beauty & wellness therapies that she wrote about as a journalist and experimented a great deal wioth ingredients or products that she reviewed professionally or simply shared with friends! Now in her late 40s, she’s very interested in discovering viable solutions for ageing skincare and therapies.

What was the first beauty routine you adopted as a child or teenager? Which emotions do you connect with this memory?

As a teen with greasy skin I had quite a lot of spots, which I despised. I took Brewer’s Yeast and used Noxzema face wash and topical gels, and later Clarins Purifying toner. I didn’t know much about beauty care and probably exacerbated my skin in my desperation to strip it of its oiliness!

CONSCIOUS BEAUTY — What meaning do you give this term?

The word Conscious has two meanings for me: Being Conscious of your own Beauty — Your inner and outer self, that deserves respect and care to shine by using pure, organic, healthy products. And Conscious of the source you’re sourcing your beauty ingredients and products from; being respectful, caring and loving to animals and plants, to the planet overall by buying only what doesn’t cause harm to them.

Which aspects of sustainability in beauty are especially important to you?

All of it — from farming and production methods that harm the environment to animal abuse.

When do you consciously feel beautiful?

When I know I am being good to myself via my diet, yoga, sleep and of course healthy relationships and thus feel in harmony with myself & the world. Also, when I am loved and admired by people who truly matter.

Did your approach to beauty change within the last 1–2 years?

Yes, because I’m in Perimenopause.

How would you like to see the image of beauty change within the next 5 years?

I would like to see more high-tech/ innovative, Effective and Affordable beauty solutions offered to women. I would like to see more emphasis placed on diet on a mass scale as a means of enhancing beauty. I would like to see women not treated by their society as dispensable or even desirable based solely on their age & beauty, and for social media to encourage, empower and reward women for beauty that is not false, staged or shallow.

What or who inspires your beauty routine?

I always feel much younger than my age, and I believe that my face especially makes me look a lot older than I am! So I’m inspired to keep the condition of my skin and facial /physical structure as good as possible so it can reflect how I feel inside. I’m also very inspired by advanced, innovative products and techniques and ongoing technological research. I can’t wait for the foundation that you put on daily that will literally erase, lift and reverse wrinkles as you wear it, ha ha! I see it coming!

What is your best beauty advice to others?

Firstly, be aware that Skin is our largest organ, AND that it is our barrier between what’s on the inside & what’s on the outside. Thus it is affected by both — just as mental stress can bring acne or hives, air pollution and bad products can cause internal symptoms. Next, learn about your individual skin — its quality, strengths & weaknesses & potential. Don’t be afraid to approach experts for this. Conduct thorough research on the right products for your skin type — and how it changes throughout the years — and don’t be afraid to experiment with different kinds of ingredients. Also, make sure your diet & lifestyle supports face/skin/body health. Again, research is vital, as is experimentation!

THANK YOU!
