Conscious Beauty And Beautiful Minds: Interview w/ Acy Brown

Acy is from Chatham….a small town located in northern Louisiana. He has been a professional commercial print model for 18 years. The modeling industry itself is built on the epitome of beauty. Because he consistently has to be photographed for advertisements with his natural look, it’s important he keeps his skin hydrated and moisturized. Because his professions requires him to submit headshots and closeups to various health and beauty publications, Acy definitely has to be conscious and aware of his skin care regimen by eliminating acne and blemishes. Due to his skincare regimen of using an exfoliating scrub, rinsing with lukewarm water, and applying cocoa or shea butter, Acy has been able to maintain a smooth even-toned skin complexion that limits the amount of makeup that has to be applied prior to being photographed on set.

He also owns his own fit-leisure brand, so he also has to maintain a fitness routine and proper diet to preserve his physical appearance. Because his job is to promote and advertise products and services for companies, Acy must remain in touch with his conscious beauty regimen in a highly competitive beauty industry.

What was the first beauty routine you adopted as a child or teenager? Which emotions do you connect with this memory?

When I was a child, I loved to use bubble bath because it made my skin smell good and I loved to use facial scrubs because it gave my skin a cool fresh feeling. It invokes the emotion of joy knowing even as a child that I have always been interested and focused on how my skin appears and feels.

CONSCIOUS BEAUTY — What meaning do you give this term?

Conscious Beauty is the meaning of self awareness and knowing what products work best for my skin complexion and body as a whole. Being able to recognize both the internal and external attributes that really makes one attractive and appealing to other people without being nor acting conceited is also a meaning I give to Conscious Beauty.

Which aspects of sustainability in beauty are especially important to you?

Sustainable sourcing is the most important aspect for me. I use products that contain the most natural ingredients and the least amount of chemicals as possible.

Mainstream shopping channels afford me the ability to keep up with men’s self care trends by allowing me the opportunity to go to the local drugstore or merchandising store to purchase my skincare products.

When do you consciously feel beautiful?

I feel consciously beautiful when I shave by head, trim my mustache/goatee, and dress up in a Suit and Tie and shined shoes.

Did your approach to beauty change within the last 1–2 years?

I have maintained my current look/beauty regimen minus my bald head. Taking care of my body and its external appearance has always been important and a priority of mine.

How would you like to see the image of beauty change within the next 5 years?

I really would like to see more of the all-natural look and less of the artificial attachments/enhancements that take away the natural aging process (excluding medical conditions/reasons). Right now from my point of view, there is so much emphasis on having a certain shape or particular look that many people are actually masking their real beauty in order to match a particular so-called “popular/trendy” look by the masses.

What or who inspires your beauty routine?

Having even toned smooth skin has always been appealing to me. I have never liked rough dry skin…even when I was a little boy. I have always been into beauty products and developing a beauty routine that would help me achieve the best looking skin as possible.

What is your best beauty advice to others?

Consume water as your main beverage as it keeps your skin hydrated, maintain a healthy diet, limit greasy and processed foods preserved with excess sodium, keep your stress levels down, and get an adequate amount of sleep in the 6–8 hour range each night.

What are your favourite skin care products?

My favorite skin care products are Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula and Palmer’s Raw Shea Balm. I have been using these products for over 35 years.

THANK YOU!
